STEP 3 HYBRID Tmax camshaft kit with DLC treatment and variable sprockets

The Step 3 Hybrid Camshaft Kit has been developed to achieve a more advanced compromise between mid-range filling, top-end power, and engine usability.

The “Hybrid” designation stems from the kit’s unique configuration, which combines components from two different levels of preparation:

• Intake camshaft derived from the Step 3 Kit
• Exhaust camshaft derived from the Step 2 Kit

This configuration allows for the use of the higher-performance Step 3 profile on the intake side, improving cylinder filling and the engine's ability to breathe at high RPMs, while maintaining a Step 2 exhaust camshaft, which is more balanced and manageable in power delivery.

A solution developed to obtain an engine that is fuller, more powerful, and more usable, while maintaining a good balance between torque, response, and high-RPM power.

THE COMPLETE KIT INCLUDES:

• 2 FD CNC-machined camshafts PK-FD97A and PK-FD87S, complete with pre-installed D.27 variable timing sprockets; both camshafts and sprockets undergo DLC treatment.
• 8 Reinforced Racing springs

The DLC – Diamond-Like Carbon treatment creates an extremely thin, hard, low-friction layer on the surface of the cams and sprockets, designed to protect mechanical components under the most demanding operating conditions.

The characteristic anthracite-black appearance is the result of a high-performance surface finish used in the automotive and racing sectors to increase wear resistance and improve the sliding of parts subjected to heavy loads.

MANUFACTURING

Before the DLC application, each component is carefully prepared and inspected. The coating precisely follows the geometry and profile of the cam without altering its technical and functional characteristics.

The treatment is particularly recommended for tuned engines that operate with:

• high RPMs;

• uprated valve springs;

• more aggressive cam profiles;

• high loads on the valve train;

• sports, racing, or high-performance use.

WHY CHOOSE DLC TREATMENT?

During engine operation, cam lobes are subjected to very high pressures, constant friction, and strong accelerations.

The Carbon DLC treatment helps protect these critical areas, limiting surface deterioration and maintaining the characteristics of the cam profile for longer.

This results in a more resilient component, suitable for builds where reliability and performance must work together.
